Get ready, America! The World Rally Championship is on the verge of making a thrilling comeback to the United States in 2026, pending FIA approval. The excitement is building as a multi-year contract has been signed to bring the prestigious WRC back to North American soil after decades.

The WRC has been eager to reintroduce the US to its calendar since the 1988 Olympus Rally, and now, the dream is close to becoming a reality. Direct investments and promotional efforts from WRC Promoter have been paving the way for this monumental return, with a gravel rally planned in Tennessee as the potential location for the event.

While the USA’s inclusion in the 2026 WRC calendar is contingent on FIA approval, discussions are underway with the national federation ACCUS and the sanctioning body in the US to address any requirements or concerns. The WRC is aiming to unveil its 2026 calendar in July, with the possibility of expanding to over 14 events if the US project gets the green light.

Event director Simon Larkin emphasized the significance of the Rally USA project, highlighting the need for high safety and organizational standards that align with WRC protocols. The WRC is dedicated to investing in the US market with a unique business model, anticipating a potential increase in the number of events in the championship to accommodate the American audience.

Amidst the buzz surrounding the US rally, other countries like Indonesia, Ireland, and Scotland are also vying to join the WRC calendar in the future. However, it seems unlikely that any new additions will be made for the 2026 calendar outside of the US, according to Larkin, who emphasized the importance of sustainable and well-resourced events for the championship’s growth.

As the WRC gears up for an electrifying return to American soil, rally fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the official confirmation of the 2026 calendar and the potential expansion of the championship to new horizons. Stay tuned for more updates as the world of rallying braces for an exhilarating new chapter!
