VW unveiled three new concepts at the Shanghai Auto Show in China, which anticipate several electric models with extended range aimed at the Chinese market.
Developed in collaboration with Chinese partner brands FAW, SAIC, and Anhui, the new ID. Aura, ID. Era, and ID. Evo concepts forecast the production models that are expected to start arriving in the market by the end of 2027.

The new models, which are not expected to reach the European market, are part of the brand’s strategy for China and belong to the category of new energy vehicles, meaning they are fully electric, as well as models with plug-in hybrid propulsion and range extenders.
All production versions of the concepts now presented will be equipped with systems based on Artificial Intelligence for highly automated driving.
“In the next three years, we will launch more than 20 next-generation electric vehicles with innovative technologies to meet all our customers in China. With our ‘In China, for China’ strategy, we will realize our full potential and demonstrate our innovative strength locally,” emphasized Stefan Mecha, CEO of VW Passenger Cars for China.

ID. Aura
The ID. Aura, presented in Shanghai, is the result of a partnership between VW and FAW, and is the first concept based on the Compact Main Platform (CMP) with zoned electronic architecture, designed by VW specifically for the Chinese market. Thanks to its high computational capacity based on Artificial Intelligence, the highly automated driving system used on this platform raises the standard for intelligent and natural driving behavior. Additionally, it features smoother voice commands and a smartphone-inspired graphical interface to facilitate user interaction.
ID. Era

Produced in collaboration with SAIC, the ID. Era is a large SUV with three rows of seats, and it anticipates what will be the first model from the German brand with range extender technology.

A fuel generator charges the battery during driving and provides an additional range of over 700 kilometers, which adds to the 300 kilometers of 100% electric range, allowing for a total range of 1,000 kilometers.
ID. Evo

This concept from VW Anhui, a joint venture established in 2017 between JAC Motors and VW, is based on an 800-volt platform. It is the first large fully electric SUV from the VW ID. Unyx family.
The model features high-performance electronic architecture and offers new digital services, while also continuously enhancing the user experience with short interval remote updates, ‘over-the-air’.
