Mercedes Boss Shuts Down Speculations of Max Verstappen Joining the Team

In a whirlwind of rumors surrounding Max Verstappen’s dissatisfaction with Red Bull’s performance, speculations arose that the Dutch champion could potentially make a move to Mercedes. However, Toto Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes, has firmly denied any contact with Verstappen regarding a possible switch.

Amid talks of a contract clause that could allow Verstappen to leave Red Bull if he finishes fourth or lower in the championship, discussions of a potential move to Aston Martin or Mercedes for 2026 had been circulating. Nonetheless, Red Bull remains confident in retaining their star driver, as confirmed by both team officials and Verstappen himself.

Wolff addressed the speculations directly, stating, “We have not spoken with Max. At the moment, we have no doubts about George and Kimi to the extent that would call into question our driver lineup.” This statement puts an end to any rumors linking Verstappen with a move to Mercedes, reaffirming the team’s commitment to their current drivers.

Moreover, Wolff discussed the contract renewal of George Russell, emphasizing the driver’s exceptional performance and reiterating Mercedes’ satisfaction with their existing lineup. As the season progresses, talks of Russell’s contract extension will resume, but Wolff made it clear that there is no rush to make any decisions.

With Mercedes’ stance on their driver lineup crystal clear, it seems that Verstappen’s future remains firmly tied to Red Bull, squashing any hopes of a potential blockbuster move to the reigning champions.
