Lewis Hamilton Escapes Penalty After Blocking Alexander Albon in FP2

In a heart-stopping moment during the second free practice session at the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton found himself in hot water after impeding Alexander Albon. The Williams driver, Albon, initially criticized Hamilton’s positioning as “dangerous” as they both navigated Turn 12. Consequently, the stewards summoned the seven-time world champion to address the issue.

After a thorough investigation involving discussions with both drivers and a review of various data sets, the four stewards made a jaw-dropping decision – no penalty for Hamilton. The stewards’ document revealed, “Car 44 unnecessarily impeded Car 23 during Practice 2 at Turn 17.” However, the incident was not deemed dangerous enough to warrant any further action against Hamilton.

Despite the initial concern raised by Albon, who had to take evasive action to avoid a collision, it was ultimately concluded that the situation was not as perilous as first thought. Hamilton, who ended up with the 13th fastest time in the session, and Albon, who secured the 10th position, both continued with their practice runs.

Williams team principal James Vowles shed light on the incident, emphasizing the challenging nature of certain sections of the track that can lead to such impeding situations. Vowles highlighted the blind spots between Turn 5 and Turn 8, where drivers face limited options when encountering such obstacles.

As the race weekend unfolds, the drama and intensity on the track continue to escalate. With Albon’s close call behind them, all eyes are on the thrilling competition set to unfold at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Stay tuned for more updates and insights as the race weekend progresses.
