Young Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson has made a bold statement, denying any confidence collapse after being dropped by Red Bull. Despite facing challenges in his brief stint with the team, Lawson remains steadfast in his self-assurance.
The New Zealander faced setbacks during his time with Red Bull, including technical issues and limited track time, which ultimately led to him being replaced by Yuki Tsunoda. However, Lawson is quick to dismiss any doubts about his confidence, stating that his focus is on adapting to a new car rather than questioning his abilities.
“I didn’t spend anywhere near enough time [in the Red Bull] for me to reflect on those two races and go, ‘oh my god, I’ve really struggled in this car, I’ve lost my ability’,” Lawson declared. “It’s just been about getting used to a new car again, and the team, and trying to do all that as quickly as possible.”
Furthermore, Lawson highlighted the challenges posed by varying track conditions in the early races of the season, making it difficult to optimize tyre performance. He emphasized the unpredictability of real-life conditions compared to simulator simulations, presenting an additional hurdle for teams to overcome.
While facing adversity, Lawson remains resolute in his determination to succeed in Formula 1. Despite his turbulent journey with Red Bull, he is focused on acclimating to his new team, Racing Bulls, and showcasing his true potential on the track.
