Max Verstappen’s Future in Formula 1 Hangs in the Balance for the 2026 Season

The Formula 1 world is abuzz with speculation about Max Verstappen’s future with Red Bull following a challenging start to the season. After a tough race in Bahrain that saw him finish fifth due to car and technical issues, former F1 strategist Bernie Collins has weighed in on the crucial decision Verstappen faces, hinting that a move could be on the horizon even before the 2026 regulation changes.

Collins, speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Show ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, did not mince words, suggesting that despite Verstappen’s strong ties to Red Bull, the Dutch driver may prioritize performance over loyalty when choosing his next team. With a desire for victory fueling his every move, Collins believes Verstappen will opt for the team that offers him the best chance at securing the World Championship title.

While Verstappen has a history with Red Bull, the team’s performance this season has not been up to par with previous years of dominance. Verstappen himself acknowledged that McLaren is not a current rival, emphasizing his focus on the championship battle.

The decision to potentially leave Red Bull, where Verstappen began his F1 career, is a pivotal one that could shape his future in the sport. With speculations of an exit clause in his contract circulating, the pressure is on for Verstappen to make the right choice amidst uncertainties about engine and chassis performance in the upcoming seasons.

Collins emphasized the gravity of Verstappen’s decision, citing past champions whose success hinged on being in the right team at the right time. The pundit stressed the impact of car selection on a driver’s championship prospects, highlighting the strategic importance of choosing the best machinery available.

As the F1 community eagerly awaits Verstappen’s next move, the driver finds himself at a crossroads that could define his career trajectory and future successes on the track. Stay tuned as the saga of Verstappen’s team choice for the 2026 season unfolds, promising high stakes and intense competition in the world of Formula 1.
