Initially brushed off as a minor button pressing issue, the problem persisted, forcing the team to switch to manual mode. Team principal Christian Horner later confirmed that the root of the problem likely stemmed from an electrical or wiring failure in the gantry. Horner stated, “Max came in for the first stop, and the light did nothing. The system is very straightforward, and we initially thought the button hadn’t been pressed firmly enough by one of the technicians. But it happened again on the next stop. At that point, we switched to manual mode, and the chief mechanic instructed the car to go.”
Revealing further details, Horner expressed, “I’ve just been informed there was some sort of electrical or wiring issue with the gantry. It’s a problem I’ve never seen before. The drivers rely on those lights, and the stops were great; one of them was a two-second stop. But then the driver is waiting on the lights. Everything has been put on hold, and we will take a good look at it.”
