Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc Admits Lack of Speed After Missing Podium in Bahrain Grand Prix

After narrowly missing out on a podium finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc openly admitted that Ferrari is simply not fast enough to compete with the top teams this season. Despite starting the race in second position, Leclerc quickly lost ground to George Russell and later to Lando Norris, ultimately finishing outside the top three.

The young driver expressed his frustration with Ferrari’s performance, acknowledging that they are trailing behind McLaren, Mercedes, and Max Verstappen. Leclerc, who had shown optimism after qualifying, saw his hopes dashed early in the race as he struggled to keep up with the leading pack.

“We’re just not fast enough,” Leclerc stated. “We pushed in the first stint, but the pace was lacking compared to the others. Regardless of the strategy we employed, our speed deficit was evident throughout the race.”

Despite being on fresher tires after the safety car period, Leclerc believed that it would not have significantly altered the outcome due to Ferrari’s overall lack of pace. Reflecting on the race, he mentioned, “My tires were overheating, and I was starting to struggle. We could have pushed George to pit, but we didn’t manage to. It was the right call based on our situation, but our speed disadvantage was apparent.”

Leclerc’s assessment highlights the challenges that Ferrari is currently facing in the competitive Formula 1 landscape. As the team strives to close the gap to their rivals, Leclerc’s candid admission sheds light on the work that lies ahead for Ferrari to regain their competitive edge in the races to come.
