Lando Norris Crushed by Disappointment: “Feels Like I’ve Never Driven an F1 Before”

After a devastating sixth-place finish in the qualifying session, Lando Norris is left soul-crushed and searching for answers. The British driver expressed deep disappointment as he had to settle for sixth on the grid, while his teammate Oscar Piastri clinched the pole position.

Despite being neck and neck with Piastri in Q1 and Q2, as well as the early laps of Q3, Norris struggled in the crucial moments, allowing several rival cars to slot in between them. Piastri’s impressive time of 1m 29.841s was nearly four-tenths faster than Norris, pushing him further down the starting grid behind not only his teammate but also the two Mercedes cars, Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari, and Pierre Gasly from Alpine.

In a moment of raw honesty, Norris admitted, “I was just slow. I’ve been slow the whole weekend, to be honest. Nothing too surprising, honestly. I’ve just been off the pace. Feels like I’ve never driven an F1 car before. I’m struggling a lot, I don’t know why. I need to try and find some answers.”

Despite praising the team and their fantastic car, Norris couldn’t help but feel like he was letting them down. With the significant gap between him and Piastri, Norris contemplated a realistic goal for the Grand Prix, saying, “I’ll try to win the race, but I don’t think I’ll win. I think the best chance is to try to get on the podium. I think Oscar will pass everyone. I’ll try to get second place, I think.”

Starting the race with just a one-point lead over Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship, Norris is aware of the challenging position he is in. Verstappen is set to line up one place behind him in seventh on the grid, adding more pressure to Norris’s already intense situation.
