Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, the former Ferrari president, didn’t hold back in his recent interview with TG1, where he unleashed scathing criticisms at the iconic racing team. Montezemolo, who is making a comeback to the Formula 1 paddock after over a decade, expressed his disappointment in the current state of the Ferrari team, describing it as “a team without a soul.”
In a passionate statement to Marco Franzelli, Montezemolo lamented, “Returning is an emotion because ten years are a lot, and I hope to bring luck to Ferrari, which desperately needs it right now. How do I feel as a fan? Sad because I see a team without a soul. Ferrari is passion, Ferrari is working day and night, Ferrari is never giving up. And I’m also a bit angry because I hoped to see a truly competitive car from the beginning this year.”
Montezemolo didn’t shy away from addressing the arrival of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to the Ferrari team, emphasizing Hamilton’s greatness and his desire to finish his career at Ferrari. He highlighted the challenges of adapting to a new way of working and stressed the crucial need for a winning car after many years of drought.
Regarding Ferrari’s prospects for the world championships, Montezemolo expressed his disappointment, stating, “If Ferrari had solved those balance and competitiveness issues in Bahrain, I would be more optimistic about the future. Today, after the first three races, I am less so.” The former Ferrari president’s words carry weight, signaling a call to action for the iconic racing team to reclaim its former glory on the Formula 1 circuit.
