Fernando Alonso’s Frightening Steering Wheel Mishap Shocks Fans in Bahrain Grand Prix Practice

In a heart-stopping moment during the Bahrain Grand Prix second practice session, Formula 1 legend Fernando Alonso faced a terrifying incident when his steering wheel suddenly detached from his car while he was speeding around the track.

Just as Alonso was getting into the rhythm of the session, his steering wheel display went blank, and within moments, the wheel disconnected from the steering column, leaving the seasoned driver in a precarious situation. Over the team radio, a panicked Alonso urgently requested, “Change the steering wheel. There’s a problem with the steering wheel; it’s switching off.”

Addressing the perplexing ordeal with the media afterward, the Spanish icon shared, “Yeah, the car [was] not working, and I could not shift gears at one point, so yeah, I had a dash off. So, I could not communicate with the team either, and yeah, in the last corner the wheel was off. So yeah, we realized that maybe the steering column of the wheel or something had a problem. The mechanics quickly changed the parts and everything was fine. So yeah, a moment there, but thanks to everyone in the garage to fix it quite fast.”

Despite the unnerving incident, Alonso was able to resume the session after the mechanics swiftly addressed the issue. The Aston Martin team provided an update stating, “We had a steering wheel issue on Fernando’s car which we are looking to resolve in the garage. Upon further investigation, we’re changing parts of the steering system on Fernando’s car.”

Following the disrupted practice, Alonso managed to secure the 15th position on the timesheet. However, the 43-year-old racing maestro expressed his concerns about the weekend ahead, admitting, “Yeah, I think it’s going to be a tough weekend, unfortunately, we seem not to have the pace before coming here. The characteristics of Bahrain were a little bit of a concern for us, for our package, and yeah, probably we confirm today that we are not competitive. It’s going to be a tough weekend, but we will try to learn. We will try to push, and we are not giving up.”

Alonso’s resilience and determination in the face of adversity have left fans both worried and inspired as they eagerly await the unfolding drama of the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend.
