In a shocking turn of events, the FIA faces yet another upheaval as respected deputy president Robert Reid steps down, leaving Formula 1 in disarray. George Russell, a vocal critic of the FIA’s leadership, slams the governing body for its lack of stability following Reid’s departure.

Reid, who had been a prominent figure within the FIA since 2021, cited a disregard for transparency and governance under controversial president Mohammed Ben Sulayem as the reason for his resignation. Russell, a Director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, expresses little surprise at Reid’s decision, highlighting the ongoing turmoil within the organization.

Drivers, including Russell, have long sought to have their voices heard within the FIA, only to be met with resistance. Despite their efforts to promote transparency and accountability, the drivers feel sidelined and powerless in the face of the FIA’s unilateral decision-making.

Russell’s frustration is palpable as he acknowledges the ineffectiveness of the drivers’ collective actions in influencing the FIA’s direction. With Reid’s departure underscoring the lack of communication and collaboration between the drivers and the governing body, Russell emphasizes the urgent need for stability and unity within Formula 1.

As the sport grapples with yet another leadership crisis, the future remains uncertain. Will the FIA heed the calls for change and usher in a new era of transparency and cooperation, or will the drivers continue to be sidelined in decisions that impact their careers and the future of Formula 1?
