Mohammed Ben Sulayem FIA President Slams Lack of Recognition Amid Formula 1’s Explosive Growth

F1’s Future Hangs in the Balance as Ben Sulayem Takes Center Stage at Concorde Showdown in Bahrain

The Formula 1 world is set to witness a high-stakes showdown as FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem makes his first appearance at an F1 race this season at the upcoming Bahrain Grand Prix. With the future of F1 hanging in the balance, all eyes are on Ben Sulayem as he navigates the complex web of negotiations surrounding the Concorde Agreement.

The Concorde Agreement, a pivotal three-party deal between F1 teams, rights holders, and the governing body, sets the stage for regulations, governance, and prize money distribution in the sport. As the current agreement nears its end this year, tensions are running high as teams, including new entrant Cadillac for 2026, have inked terms with Liberty Media, the sport’s rights holders.

In a bold move, F1 announced, “Formula 1 can confirm that all teams have signed the 2026 Concorde Commercial Agreement, which secures the long-term economic strength of the sport.” While stakeholders lauded the agreement for its positive impact and growth, speculations arise that the FIA might have been caught off guard by the swift deal.

Ben Sulayem, known for seeking a greater financial share for the FIA, faces mounting pressure to finalize the agreement as concerns loom over the organization’s delay in signing. With ambitious plans to enhance race regulation, marshal training, and steward development, Ben Sulayem’s demands for improved financial terms could set the stage for a tense standoff with Liberty Media and the teams eager for a resolution.

The FIA president’s leadership has come under intense scrutiny, with Motorsport UK chairman David Richards threatening legal action over governance concerns. Richards’ open letter criticized Ben Sulayem’s alleged breach of FIA statutes and lack of transparency, further fueling the spotlight on the president as he vies for a second term.

As the drama unfolds in Bahrain, the fate of F1’s future rests on Ben Sulayem’s power play and ability to navigate the turbulent waters of the Concorde Agreement negotiations. Stay tuned as the high-stakes battle for the sport’s direction reaches a critical juncture in the heart of the racing world.
