Yuki Tsunoda’s Rollercoaster Debut with Red Bull: Frustration and Lessons Learned

Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda had a bittersweet weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix, his first race with the Red Bull team. Despite showing promising pace in the practice sessions, a mistake during qualifying hampered his starting position for the race. Tsunoda ultimately finished in 12th place, expressing his frustration at not being able to score points in front of his home crowd.

Tsunoda’s performance did not go unnoticed, as he received praise from Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, for his competitive pace, staying close to Verstappen’s speed in other sessions. However, the team is still waiting for Tsunoda’s second car to clinch a point since 2025.

Reflecting on his race, Tsunoda described his emotions as “mixed feelings,” having overtaken Lawson and Pierre Gasly, another former Red Bull driver, to cross the finish line in 12th place, 58 seconds behind his race-winning teammate, Max Verstappen. Despite the disappointment of not scoring points, Tsunoda emphasized the valuable lessons he learned during the 53-lap race.

Tsunoda admitted, “It was quite frustrating, but at the same time, I feel like I learned a lot of things in those 53 laps. I learned more than anything, so I’m optimistic about that. I’m excited for the next one, but at the same time, it’s a home Grand Prix. It’s once a year, so it was a bit tough.”

In a sport where every millisecond counts, Tsunoda’s resilience and determination to improve are evident. As he navigates the challenges of Formula 1, all eyes will be on the young driver to see how he continues to evolve and make his mark on the prestigious racing series.
