Chase Elliott Blames Himself for Darlington Struggles

NASCAR star Chase Elliott has a tumultuous relationship with Darlington Raceway, and he’s not afraid to admit it. In a recent media appearance, Elliott humorously compared his struggles at the South Carolina racetrack to a one-sided relationship, stating, “It’s totally me; it’s not the track. It’s me, not you, right?”

Despite his success in the Cup Series, Elliott has yet to secure a win at Darlington Raceway with Hendrick Motorsports, boasting a 16.3 average finish in 16 previous starts. With seven top-10 finishes, 151 laps led, and four DNFs, Darlington statistically ranks as one of his worst tracks among intermediates on the schedule.

Elliott remains optimistic about his performance at Darlington, emphasizing his preparation and game plan for the upcoming race. He also highlighted his participation in the Xfinity Series race, aiming to leverage the additional track time to enhance his comfort and visualization ahead of the Cup Series event.

While Elliott’s track record at Darlington in the Cup Series may be underwhelming, his Xfinity Series performances tell a different story. With one win in four starts at Darlington, Elliott has shown promise in previous races at the challenging racetrack.

As he gears up for the Goodyear 400, Elliott expressed his fondness for Darlington, despite the track not reciprocating the sentiment. With a positive outlook on the upcoming race, Elliott is determined to finally win over Darlington and secure a coveted victory at the historic venue.
