Nissan announced this Friday that it is reviewing its strategy to maintain production in the United States, following the tariffs imposed on Thursday by the U.S. on the automotive sector.
The company indicates that the production of the Nissan Rogue “will be maintained at the Smyrna factory in Tennessee, USA, in order to keep production in the United States, exempt from the new customs duties”.
However, the Japanese brand announced that it has suspended “orders for the Infiniti QX50 and QX55”, models produced in Mexico for the United States, but will continue production of these two models for other markets.
It is worth noting that Nissan announced at the end of 2024 a cost-cutting plan that includes cutting nine thousand jobs worldwide and reducing production capacity by 20%.
Additionally, in 2024, about 30% of Nissan’s global sales were in the United States, with 924,000 vehicles sold, but of this total, only 524,900 came from its North American factories, with the remaining 43% imported, mainly from Japan and Mexico.
