Red Bull Team Principal Drops Bombshell Decision on Liam Lawson’s Demotion

In a shocking turn of events, Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull, has made a bold statement regarding Liam Lawson’s sudden demotion from the team, stating that “sometimes you’ve got to be cruel to be kind.” This decision comes after Lawson’s underwhelming performance in the first two Grand Prix weekends of the 2025 season.

The young driver from New Zealand faced a series of setbacks, including a crash in Australia due to wet weather conditions and a disappointing P20 qualification for both the Chinese Grand Prix and the sprint race. Horner, speaking at a Sky Sports event in Tokyo, shed light on the reasons behind Lawson’s demotion to the sister team, Racing Bulls, emphasizing the need to nurture Lawson’s talent gradually.

Horner explained, “Of course, it’s horrible because you’re taking away someone’s dreams and aspirations, but sometimes you’ve got to be cruel to be kind. I think that in this instance, this is not the end for Liam. I was very clear with him, is that it’s a sample of two races. I think that we’ve asked too much of you too soon.”

Following his demotion, Lawson will now be joining fellow rookie driver Isack Hadjar at Racing Bulls for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix weekend. Despite the unexpected turn of events, Lawson remains optimistic, stating, “It is maybe something I wasn’t expecting so early but something that obviously is not my decision. For me, it’s about making the most of this opportunity now and still being in Formula 1, I still have that.”

As Lawson prepares to make his mark at Racing Bulls, the motorsport world eagerly anticipates his comeback and the resurgence of his undeniable talent on the track. Stay tuned for more updates on this gripping Formula 1 saga.
