Nico Hulkenberg Blown Away by Audi’s F1 Project Advancements
German racing driver Nico Hulkenberg is singing praises for Audi’s Formula 1 project, expressing his awe at the advancements made during his recent visit to the Audi power unit facility in Neuburg, Germany.
Hulkenberg, who has signed a multi-year deal with Sauber as they gear up to transition into the Audi works team in 2026, was particularly impressed by the dedication of over 400 individuals working on developing a specialized powertrain for Audi’s F1 venture.
As Formula 1 gears up for a shift towards electrification in 2026, the development of high-performance engines in Neuburg is seen as a critical factor in Audi’s potential success in the upcoming seasons.
Following his visit to the facility ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, Hulkenberg commended the progress being made, stating, “I am impressed by what I have seen. The facility demonstrates how seriously Audi takes F1.”
He further added, “Everything Audi has done in motorsport has been executed with precision. I am excited by the progress the team has made on the 2026 power unit.”
With Audi set to take over Sauber’s entry in 2026, the current focus is on overcoming present challenges. Newly appointed Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley is enthusiastic about his role, aiming to lead the team to new heights.
Sauber, despite facing difficulties in recent races, showed promise with Hulkenberg’s standout performance in Australia. COO & CTO Mattia Binotto emphasized the team’s determination to improve, stating, “The team is working hard, both trackside and back at base in Hinwil, and we are fully focused on moving forward together.”
