IndyCar’s Explosive 2026 Calendar Reveal: World Cup Clash, New Races, and Contract Drama

The 2026 IndyCar Calendar: What Lies Ahead for Racing Fans

As the anticipation builds for the 2026 IndyCar Series, fans are eager to uncover the key pieces that will shape the upcoming season. From potential new venues to the impact of major sporting events like the 2026 World Cup, there are plenty of factors at play that could make next year’s calendar one to remember.

Penske Entertainment CEO Mark Miles shared some insights into the plans for the 2026 season, hinting at a continued trend of 17 races. While the desired number of races remains consistent, there are discussions about potential changes to the lineup to accommodate new additions like the Arlington Grand Prix.

One venue that is still up in the air is The Thermal Club. While the location has received praise for its amenities and track quality, concerns about audience numbers and broadcast signals have put its future on the line. IndyCar is weighing the pros and cons of returning to Thermal, considering options like using it for pre-season testing if not as a championship race.

The 2026 season is also set to kick off with the St. Petersburg race in March, followed by the Arlington Grand Prix. Miles is optimistic about the pacing of the races, aiming to provide fans with an exciting start to the championship run.

However, one major challenge IndyCar faces in 2026 is the scheduling conflicts posed by the 2026 World Cup, which will be aired on FOX. Similar to the blackout period during the Summer Olympics, IndyCar may need to adjust its race dates to accommodate FOX’s soccer focus.

Despite the uncertainties, the move of all races to network broadcasts with FOX marks a significant milestone for IndyCar. While race dates and times may need to be adjusted, the network-only standard is expected to remain in place.

Looking ahead, potential races in Denver and Mexico City are on the cards, along with contract extensions for existing events like Portland and Monterey. IndyCar is exploring various options to enhance the racing calendar and provide fans with an unforgettable season.

With FOX’s involvement opening up new opportunities for races across the country, the 2026 IndyCar season is shaping up to be a thrilling ride for both drivers and fans alike. Stay tuned for more updates as the pieces of the calendar fall into place.
