Ferrari’s Secret Weapon: How They’re Tailoring Their Car to Lewis Hamilton’s Liking

Lewis Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari has been nothing short of headline-worthy. While the team faced challenges in executing flawless race weekends in Australia and China, Hamilton managed to clinch his first sprint pole and victory in Shanghai, marking a significant milestone in his journey with the Italian powerhouse.

Adapting to a new car built on a different philosophy than what he was accustomed to at Mercedes hasn’t been easy for the seven-time world champion. Recognizing the importance of every detail in the highly competitive world of Formula 1, Ferrari has taken bold steps to make Hamilton feel at home in his new racing environment.

From personalized welcome messages on his steering wheel to customized clutch and gear levers designed for better ergonomics, Ferrari has left no stone unturned in catering to Hamilton’s preferences. Not stopping at just physical modifications, the team has delved into the software realm, tweaking data displays and management systems to align more closely with what Hamilton was used to at Mercedes.

One notable change is the inclusion of additional information on Hamilton’s steering wheel, providing insights into engine mappings and battery pack charge levels that were not available to his teammate, Charles Leclerc. By tailoring the layout and functionality of the steering wheel to match Hamilton’s familiarity, Ferrari aims to enhance his comfort and performance on track.

Differences in how Mercedes and Ferrari manage and present key settings further highlight the meticulous approach taken by Ferrari to accommodate Hamilton’s needs. With a greater emphasis on detailed data display and control options, the SF-25 steering wheel offers a comprehensive suite of features aimed at optimizing Hamilton’s driving experience.

While these adjustments may seem minor on the surface, their impact on Hamilton’s comfort and confidence behind the wheel could prove to be game-changing. As Ferrari continues to fine-tune their car to suit the preferences of their star driver, the stage is set for Hamilton to unleash his full potential and make his mark in the iconic red of Ferrari.
