Max Verstappen names Daniel Ricciardo as his toughest teammate in F1 journey

Red Bull’s Shocking Decision: Daniel Ricciardo Not Considered as Liam Lawson’s Replacement

In a surprising turn of events, Red Bull’s advisor, Helmut Marko, has revealed that the team never even contemplated approaching Daniel Ricciardo to make a return to Formula 1 and replace Liam Lawson. This revelation comes following Lawson’s abrupt departure from the team after a disastrous start to the 2025 season, leaving fans and analysts stunned.

Marko firmly stated, “No, that was never considered,” shutting down any speculation about Ricciardo potentially rejoining the team. Despite Ricciardo being one of the most competitive teammates Verstappen has had, Red Bull seemingly had no interest in bringing him back into the fold.

Ricciardo’s unsuccessful stint with Red Bull’s sister squad in mid-2023 failed to reignite his career, leading to his departure before the end of the season. The Australian driver himself hinted at the end of his F1 career after failing to secure a comeback to Red Bull, indicating that he was seeking fulfillment and competitive success that he was unable to find within the team.

With Lawson’s sudden exit and Yuki Tsunoda stepping in as the latest driver to partner Verstappen, the second driver position at Red Bull continues to be a challenging role, with a reputation for being a “poisoned chalice.” The team’s struggle to find a suitable candidate highlights the intense competition and high stakes in the world of Formula 1.

As the motorsport world buzzes with speculation and surprise over Red Bull’s decision regarding Ricciardo, fans are left wondering about the future dynamics within the team and who will ultimately fill the coveted position alongside Verstappen. The drama and intrigue surrounding Red Bull and its driver choices only add to the excitement of the upcoming races and the unpredictable nature of the sport.

In a sport where milliseconds can make all the difference, Red Bull’s strategic decisions and driver selections are under intense scrutiny, shaping the landscape of Formula 1 for the seasons to come. The absence of Ricciardo in the team’s considerations raises questions about the team’s direction and the qualities they seek in their drivers as they aim for victory on the track.
