Chip Ganassi Racing Dominates Warmup: Palou and Dixon Set Pace for IndyCar Grand Prix at Thermal Club

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou and Scott Dixon have risen to the top in the 25-minute warmup session preceding the highly anticipated IndyCar Grand Prix at The Thermal Club. Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden was hot on their heels, marking a significant recovery for the team after a less than stellar qualifying round on Saturday.

Palou, who is set to start third in today’s race, trailing the Arrow McLaren duo of Pato O’Ward and Christian Lundgaard, clocked a swift lap of 1m40.3667s on the 3.6-mile road course. This time was almost on par with his qualifying time, and he comfortably outpaced his teammate Dixon by 0.46s. Newgarden followed closely, 0.5695s behind Palou, a promising performance after his team’s disappointing qualifying run.

Meanwhile, Graham Rahal of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, who had a challenging qualifying session that landed him an 18th-place start, was also able to bounce back in the warmup. Further down the lineup, Callum Ilott of PREMA Racing managed to break into the top five despite qualifying 22nd, offering a glimmer of hope for the team.

However, the warmup session wasn’t as promising for pole-sitter O’Ward who managed only the 19th fastest time, an unexpected turn given his performance in the qualifiers.

The IndyCar Grand Prix at The Thermal Club is set to commence at 3:00pm ET and will be broadcasted live on FOX. As the engines warm up and the drivers prepare, all eyes will be on the starting line-up and tire designations, setting the stage for an adrenaline-fueled race.

This thrilling warmup session has set the stage for an unpredictable race. With a dramatic turnaround from Team Penske, an impressive performance by underdogs like Callum Ilott, and the unexpected dip in form by pole-sitter O’Ward, the upcoming IndyCar Grand Prix promises to be a nail-biting spectacle. These developments have breathed life into the race, and it’s clear that anything can happen on the track. Stay tuned for the IndyCar GP, where speed, skill and strategy will decide the victor.
