In the high-stakes world of Formula 1 racing, even the smallest error can cost a driver dearly, resulting in penalty points that accumulate on their racing license. A total accumulation of 12 points can result in a ban, a fate Kevin Magnussen of Haas had to face in 2024 when he was forced to forfeit the Azerbaijan race. As we navigate the 2025 F1 season, let’s delve into the penalty points each driver has amassed, along with the expiration date of these points.

McLaren’s Lando Norris found himself in hot water at the Qatar GP 2024, failing to slow down for double-waved yellow flags. This misstep earned him 3 penalty points, all of which are set to expire on December 1, 2025. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, has racked up 4 penalty points from two separate incidents at the Brazilian GP 2024 and Abu Dhabi GP 2024, both for causing collisions with other drivers.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen tops the list with 8 penalty points stemming from five incidents in 2024, while his teammate Liam Lawson has 2 penalty points to his name, courtesy of a collision with Valtteri Bottas at the Qatar GP 2024.

The Ferrari team has been relatively clean with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton currently holding zero penalty points. Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli is in the clear as well, while George Russell has 1 point set to expire on December 1, 2025, following a safety car violation at the Qatar GP 2024.

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso has 5 points to his name, while his teammate Lance Stroll carries 4 points. Alpine’s Jack Doohan and Pierre Gasly stand at 4 and 0 respectively.

Over at Haas, Ollie Bearman holds 2 penalty points, and Esteban Ocon has 3, both accumulated from various incidents in 2024. Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar and Yuki Tsunoda are currently penalty-free.

Williams’ Alex Albon has 2 points set to expire on December 1, 2025, while his teammate Carlos Sainz carries a single point. Lastly, Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto remains unpenalized, while Nico Hulkenberg has 4 points due to incidents at the Austrian GP 2024 and Italian GP 2024.

In summary, the roster of penalty points for 2025 stands as follows: Max Verstappen (8), Fernando Alonso (5), Nico Hulkenberg, Oscar Piastri, Lance Stroll, and Jack Doohan all at 4. Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon carry 3 points each, while Alex Albon, Ollie Bearman, and Liam Lawson have 2 points. George Russell and Carlos Sainz round off the list with 1 point each.

This list will be updated as the 2025 F1 season progresses, reflecting the ebb and flow of the drivers’ conduct on the track. In this world of high-speed competition, the penalty points serve as a stark reminder that while speed is crucial, so is adherence to the rules of the race.
