The intersection of Hollywood glitz and the adrenaline rush of NASCAR is a rare spectacle. Yet, Frankie Muniz, known for his role in the popular TV series ‘Malcolm in the Middle’, has navigated this junction. After an accomplished acting career, he has found his home on the racetrack with Reaume Brothers Racing, driving the #33 truck in the 2025 NASCAR season.

Muniz has always been an ardent fan of racing, his passion evident from his early days of watching NASCAR to getting a tattoo of checkered flags on his left wrist in 2006. His journey saw him spend four years in the Champ Car Atlantic Series (2006-2009) and nurse aspirations for a career in IndyCar. But a 2009 accident, resulting in a broken back and time away from racing, seemed to dim his enthusiasm.

However, the pull towards the racetrack proved to be unshakeable. By 2021, Muniz was back, maneuvering a stock car in the ARCA series. Several Xfinity starts and Truck races later, he is now ready for his first full NASCAR season, proving that the racing bug never left him.

While an Oscar might be the pinnacle of success for most Hollywood actors, for Muniz, it’s all about crossing the finish line first. His first taste of victory came in 2005 when he won the pro/celebrity race at Long Beach, a thrilling experience that left him yearning for more.

In a recent conversation on the Bobby Bones Show, Muniz expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he’s had and the success he’s achieved. But nothing compares to the feeling he gets when he’s behind the wheel: “When I put my visor down and I leave the pit lane, I feel like I’m fulfilling my purpose.”

Despite not growing up in a racing household, Muniz found the sport captivating. His love for racing, whether NASCAR, IndyCar, or Formula One, was a constant companion even as his acting career blossomed. His passion was further fueled when he got the chance to drive the pace car at the 2001 Daytona 500, the same race where Dale Earnhardt Sr. tragically lost his life. Meeting the legendary driver, who was a fan of Muniz’s show, only amplified his desire to race professionally.

His dreams turned into reality when he secured a top-10 finish in the Truck Series at the 2025 Daytona race. Muniz acknowledged the effort that went into his journey from being an ardent spectator to a professional driver: “I was always a huge race fan… I didn’t know how I’d become a professional driver but it kind of I guess I was lucky in the sense that I got offered a test by a team. I was really fast they signed me to a two-year development deal and the next thing I knew I was a professional race car driver.”

The transition from actor to racer hasn’t been devoid of challenges. Muniz admitted to struggling in his initial races, feeling physically drained and apprehensive. However, with the current season underway, he has showcased his improvement with a P10 finish at the Daytona season opener and a P24 at the Las Vegas race.

Muniz’s new-found calmness and focus have been crucial in his transformation. “Now, I seem more calm when I start the race…You’re just less tense and you can definitely relax more and make better decisions in those split seconds when you’re not running at a ten the whole time,” he said.

Frankie Muniz’s journey from Hollywood to NASCAR is a testament to his resilience and determination. Despite the various setbacks he has encountered, his passion for racing remains undeterred. As he navigates the challenging terrains of NASCAR, we keenly anticipate his performance in the coming season.
