The simmering feud between McLaren’s CEO Zak Brown and Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner has been a focal point in the world of Formula 1. An open secret within the community has now been confirmed by Brown, acknowledging the palpable tension between the two.

The recent edition of Netflix’s Drive to Survive shed light on the fiery association between the two racing team heads. Speaking candidly to The Telegraph, Brown cleared any doubts about the authenticity of this rivalry.

“There’s no denying it; our rivalry is very real,” Brown admitted. “I don’t approve of his approach, and he likely has the same opinion about me. However, I believe this is beneficial for the sport. You need a variety of personalities and rivalries. Some of these are friendly, based on sportsmanship, while others lean towards the intense side. This has always been the way.”

The rivalry between Brown and Horner has grown fiercer with McLaren’s impressive beginning to the 2025 F1 season. Lando Norris, McLaren’s driver, secured the team’s first win at the Australian Grand Prix, demonstrating a flawless strategy under unpredictable wet conditions. McLaren was on the brink of a 1-2 finish, but Oscar Piastri got caught in the grass due to the tricky weather conditions.

Brown, speaking to Sky Sports F1 about the Melbourne triumph, said, “It was an extraordinary drive. The team devised a perfect strategy under challenging conditions. I feel terrible for Oscar; he ran an exceptional race. Both drivers were faced with the sudden rain simultaneously but Lando managed to handle it, whereas it was a bit more difficult for Oscar. Oscar’s P9 comeback was impressive, but it was a collective team victory.”

Despite their victory, there’s no time for McLaren to sit back and celebrate as they gear up for the upcoming 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. The tension between Brown and Horner is far from thawing, hinting at continued drama both on the field and behind the scenes.

Brown also took a moment to commend his team’s readiness for the race, stating, “The team performed exceptionally. Every individual at McLaren, men and women alike, they’ve constructed a formidable race car.”

This revelation from Zak Brown underlines the intense rivalry with Christian Horner, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the already thrilling world of Formula 1. As we look forward to future races, it’s clear this battle is far from over, promising more exciting narratives in the sport’s grand saga.
