Zak Brown: Ferrari, Not Verstappen, Is McLaren’s Biggest Threat in 2024 Title Race

McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown, has chosen to exercise restraint despite the team’s impressive performance at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix. The Grand Prix showcased the might of McLaren as it outpaced its rivals. However, Brown, in his wisdom, has decided to wait and watch before drawing any conclusions about the season.

Brown’s decision to remain guarded stems from the fact that the Albert Park track, where the Grand Prix took place, is somewhat of an anomaly. Hence, one cannot base their predictions for the entire season on this single event. However, the MCL39 car’s lead of over four-tenths of a second compared to its competitors is noteworthy. This considerable pace advantage suggests that the MCL39 could be the car to watch out for during this racing season.

This outstanding performance might have been even more pronounced, had it not been for the mixed weather conditions. Rainy skies prevented Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri from reaching their full potential during the race.

As the racing world gears up for the next big event in China, all eyes will be on McLaren. Will they continue to outpace their rivals, or will they falter? Zak Brown prefers to keep his cards close to his chest, opting for a “wait and see” approach. In the fast-paced world of Formula 1, only time will tell if this strategic approach will pay off.

This narrative serves as a reminder that quick conclusions should not be drawn based on a single event, especially in a sport as unpredictable as Formula 1. The upcoming race in China will undoubtedly shed more light on the competitive landscape of this racing season. Until then, fans and teams alike would do well to adopt Zak Brown’s cautious optimism.
