Tesla arranca com a produção do renovado Model Y na China

Tesla seems to be working on a smaller version of the Model Y to compete in the Chinese market, the largest in the world, in order to recover from the losses recorded at the beginning of 2025.

After selling over 657,000 vehicles in 2024, which set a new sales record in the Chinese market, despite global deliveries declining for the first time, Tesla is not having a difficult start to 2025.

With the price war and Chinese competition, the new year began with a drop in sales, and in this context, the American brand now aims to regain lost ground with a more economical version of the best-selling model in the Chinese market.

According to sources contacted by “Reuters,” the U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer is developing a model, currently named “E41,” which will be produced on existing production lines, with a production cost 20% lower than the Model Y, and is expected to start production in early 2026.

Reports from China revealed by “Reuters” indicate that the smaller version of the Model Y will be a simpler variant and will therefore use lower-cost materials, such as fabric-covered seats instead of vegan leather, no screen for rear-seat passengers, or ambient cabin lighting, all to achieve a more affordable price.

The same source also reveals that this new, more economical model is targeting the Chinese market, where Tesla’s sales are being heavily pressured by domestic competition as well as the price war. However, the new model will also be produced in Germany and North America, where it is expected to arrive later.
