Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton breathed a sigh of relief on hearing the news of Stefano Domenicali’s extended tenure as the CEO of Formula 1. Hamilton, speaking at the inaugural round of the 2025 season in Australia, couldn’t help but express his delight, saying, “Thank God he’s staying.”

Hamilton, a prominent figure in the racing world, commended Domenicali’s leadership. He underscored the importance of having a ‘good, neutral leader’ at the helm of Formula 1. Domenicali, the former Ferrari team principal, has committed to steering the sport until at least the 2029 season, a decision that has generated a wave of approval from the drivers.

During a media interaction in Melbourne, Hamilton refrained from overemphasizing Domenicali’s qualifications to lead the sport. However, he didn’t hold back his admiration for the CEO’s contribution to Formula 1’s growth. “It’s extraordinary to witness the sport’s growth year after year,” Hamilton said, adding, “It’s heartening to see the audience expand.”

Hamilton’s sentiments were echoed by Fernando Alonso, another stalwart of the sport. Alonso applauded Domenicali’s diplomatic skills, stating, “He is the glue that holds together all the egos in Formula 1 and aligns the varying interests of the teams.” Alonso went on to praise Domenicali’s ability to instill a sense of unity in the sport and his willingness to listen to all stakeholders.

Domenicali’s reign as CEO has coincided with some significant developments in Formula 1, both on and off the track. Pierre Gasly, another driver, highlighted the impressive global growth of the sport under Domenicali’s leadership. He noted the surge of interest from fans and brands alike, attributing it to Domenicali’s effective management.

Gasly pointed out that high-profile brands like Louis Vuitton and LVMH are now sponsoring the sport, a testament to its growing popularity. He also emphasized the symbiotic relationship among the drivers, the organization, and the exposure they gain from each other.

The unanimous approval of Domenicali’s continued leadership and the positive influence it has had on Formula 1 is palpable. As Hamilton succinctly put it, “It’s good to have a neutral, good leader at the forefront of the helm.” With Domenicali at the wheel, the future of Formula 1 looks promising.
