Rookie F1 Driver Oliver Bearman Jokes about ‘Having Enough’ of Lewis Hamilton After 2024 Races

Oliver Bearman, the 19-year-old British sensation, is ready to embark on his first full F1 season with Haas in 2025. Despite his rookie status, Bearman has already had his fair share of F1 action and close encounters with racing legends. A memorable chapter in this young driver’s career is his repeated duels with none other than Lewis Hamilton during his three Grand Prix starts in 2024. However, the young talent has humorously admitted he’s had his fill of racing against Hamilton.

Bearman’s journey to the F1 grid is a story of courage and opportunity. In 2022, he became part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, with dreams of one day racing a Ferrari-powered machine in the top tier of motorsport. However, destiny had other plans. His first taste of F1 action came unexpectedly at the second Grand Prix of 2024, while he was still contracted to Prema in Formula 2. Carlos Sainz’s sudden illness and subsequent surgery paved the way for Bearman to step up to the plate and he seized the opportunity with both hands, securing an impressive seventh-place finish and becoming the youngest driver to race for Ferrari.

As the 2024 season unfolded, Bearman was thrust into the limelight again, not once but twice. When Kevin Magnussen, the Haas driver, was slapped with a race ban in Azerbaijan and later withdrew due to illness at Sao Paulo, Bearman was the go-to replacement. He did not disappoint, finishing 10th and 12th respectively, leaving no doubt about his potential.

Looking ahead to the Australian Grand Prix, the media questioned Bearman about his aspirations for the upcoming season. Unsurprisingly, the young driver expressed his desire to challenge reigning world champion Max Verstappen. However, Bearman’s primary interest lies in racing against the drivers he has admired since his childhood. He acknowledged the invaluable experience of veteran drivers, specifically citing Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, whom he watched throughout his childhood years.

However, his frequent encounters with Hamilton during his unexpected F1 starts in 2024 seem to have satisfied his appetite for racing against the seasoned champion. Laughingly, he confessed, “So I’ve had enough of racing Lewis! If I can get near to him this year, then it means the car is pretty quick. So that would be a good sign.”

The 2025 season sees Haas under the stewardship of Ayao Komatsu, who brought stability and speed to the team in 2024. With a totally new driver lineup, the ensuing season promises to be one of thrilling unpredictability and fresh opportunities. As for Oliver Bearman, his journey is just beginning, and he seems more than ready to write his own chapters in the annals of Formula 1.
