The motorsport world is abuzz with Lewis Hamilton’s sensational switch to Ferrari, but co-driver Charles Leclerc remains coolly unperturbed. The Monegasque racer, affectionately known as “Mr Ferrari,” sees no threat to his standing within the team from the arrival of the seven-time world champion ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

The media storm that has surrounded Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has paradoxically given Leclerc a more peaceful off-season. Having won at Monza during his rookie season with the team in 2019 and spent considerable time in the academy, Leclerc has firmly entwined himself with the Italian outfit.

Hamilton’s reverence for Leclerc, whom he dubbed as “Mr. Ferrari,” has led to speculation that the British driver could challenge Leclerc’s position as the team’s leader. However, Leclerc has brushed aside such conjecture, emphasizing that the team’s overall success takes precedence over individual glory.

Leclerc shared with select media outlets, including Motorsport Week, his belief that no one driver can overshadow Ferrari. He said, “Ferrari is bigger than any driver and I think that’s always been the case in Ferrari. That’s what makes Ferrari so special. There’s support for the team and not for one specific driver.”

Leclerc is fully aware of the attention Hamilton’s arrival has brought to the team but insists he’s unbothered by it, reiterating that there’s no competition for the title of Ferrari’s top driver.

After long stints with Mercedes and McLaren, Hamilton’s shift to Ferrari brings him into a new cultural and operational environment. Despite these changes, Leclerc acknowledged that Hamilton has assimilated well into the team, and he’s had to offer little guidance about life at Ferrari.

Leclerc jokingly noted that the primary advice he’s given Hamilton so far relates to food, but he’s ready to assist if called upon. He, however, believes Hamilton needs less advice from him than he might need from Hamilton.

Hamilton and Leclerc’s professional relationship appears to be off to a promising start, with both drivers acknowledging the priority of the team over individual achievements. The British driver was particularly impressed with Leclerc’s work ethics, which he found akin to his own.

Hamilton heaped praise on Leclerc, stating, “It’s been really, really good. I didn’t know, naturally, you don’t know what happens behind closed doors. It’s been really interesting to see. It’s not too dissimilar to mine, and you just see a hard-working kid just getting on with it.”

As the motorsport world waits to see how this dynamic duo will fare on the track, it’s clear that the mutual respect between Hamilton and Leclerc is a strong foundation for their partnership at Ferrari. Both are focused on the team’s overall success, setting the stage for a thrilling Formula 1 season.
