Domenicali: Formula 1 serves as a testing ground for new technologies.

Stefano Domenicali, the current CEO of Formula 1, has committed to spearhead the high-octane world of motor racing for another term, extending his leadership tenure until at least the close of 2029. This comes after Domenicali inked a five-year extension to his agreement with Liberty Media, the owner of the sport.

Liberty Media, recognizing the need for a seasoned hand at the helm, tapped Domenicali as the successor to former CEO Chase Carey in 2021. Since taking office, the ex-Ferrari team principal and former Audi VP has been instrumental in propelling Formula 1 to new heights. In light of Domenicali’s contract renewal, Liberty Media lauded the sport’s current “ecosystem” as the most robust it’s ever been for all stakeholders.

Derek Chang, the newly appointed president and CEO of Liberty, acknowledged Domenicali’s pivotal role in keeping Formula 1 at the forefront of innovation and maintaining its business momentum. “We’re excited to retain Stefano and eagerly anticipate his leadership alongside Formula 1’s talented management in the upcoming years,” said Chang. He further applauded Domenicali’s stewardship, which has not only built on the sport’s successful groundwork but also accelerated its commercial growth and fan engagement.

Domenicali’s unique blend of energy and passion for the sport has been credited as the driving force behind his effective strategies and impressive results. “On behalf of Liberty, we express our gratitude for his partnership and harbor immense optimism for the continued success that the F1 team can bring to the sport, our fans, partners, and shareholders,” Chang added.

Under Domenicali’s guidance, the sport has seen a surge in its appeal to new sponsors, evidenced by the recent major global deal with luxury goods conglomerate LVMH. The Italian leader also played a key role in the initial rejection, and subsequent acceptance, of an 11th team, with Cadillac poised to join the grid in 2026.

Expressing his commitment to the sport’s future, the 59-year-old Domenicali said the focus for the next half-decade would be to continue enhancing the fan experience and expanding the sport’s reach to new audiences.

“I am honored to persist in leading this incredible sport, a sport that I fell in love with in my childhood and am grateful to the Liberty Media team for their trust,” Domenicali said. He pledged to persistently serve the best interests of the fans, who he described as the heartbeat of everything Formula 1 does. “Their passion, energy, and adrenaline are what fuels me every day to give my absolute best to Formula 1,” he added.
