Inside the Fast Lane: Season 7 of Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive Premieres Today, Unveiling the Thrills of 2024 Championship

Netflix’s acclaimed Formula 1 documentary, Drive to Survive, is once again taking us behind the scenes of the thrilling 2024 season in its seventh installment. This season features the power shift that saw McLaren dethrone Red Bull as the constructors’ champion, the controversy surrounding Christian Horner, and the repercussions of Lewis Hamilton’s surprising switch from Mercedes to Ferrari.

Formula 1 teams are not shying away from the buzz surrounding the new season of the documentary, stoking the flames of anticipation on social media. McLaren, for instance, turned to a game of Bingo to engage followers on the debut day of the seventh season, while Verizon’s Max Verstappen shared a nostalgic look back at his mastery under rainy conditions in Brazil during the 2024 season.

Mercedes, on the other hand, took a more laid-back approach, suggesting viewers enjoy the series with their W16 model. The return of Flavio Briatore to Alpine was also a notable highlight, as was the humble origin story told by the Williams team. Haas introduced us to Komatsu’s first-ever experience in the hot seat, adding to the season’s intrigue.

The seventh season of Drive to Survive consists of ten episodes, each delving into the gripping dramas and intense rivalries that marked the 2024 season. From Lewis Hamilton’s game-changing decision and the ensuing allegations to Lando Norris’s quest to outshine Max Verstappen, the episodes promise a riveting journey through the highs and lows of the season.

Other notable narratives include George Russell’s ambition to fill the void left by Hamilton at Mercedes, Carlos Sainz’s future after being dropped by Ferrari, the pressure on Charles Leclerc in the Monaco Grand Prix, and McLaren’s quest for the constructors’ championship. The episodes also cover behind-the-scenes moments from the Singapore Grand Prix, Red Bull’s struggle to live up to its 2023 success, the management changes at Haas and Alpine, and the thrilling climax of the season.

The seventh season of Drive to Survive is exclusively available on Netflix and was released on March 7, a week ahead of the 2025 F1 Australian Grand Prix. You can also catch up with all the previous six seasons on the streaming platform.

As for the future of the series, no official word has come from Netflix about an eighth installment. However, given the success of the show in the world of motorsports, there’s no reason to believe that Drive to Survive is heading towards cancellation. If the show does get renewed, we can likely expect the eighth season to premiere around late February or early March, following the tradition of releasing a week before the F1 season kicks off. The start date for the 2026 season, however, remains unconfirmed.

In summary, the seventh season of Drive to Survive promises to be a thrilling ride as it navigates through the tumultuous 2024 Formula 1 season. Whether you’re a die-hard F1 fan or a casual viewer, this season is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.
