Short Track Legends Eye Redemption in Cup Series: Will Burt Myers Make a Comeback at Martinsville?

The NASCAR 2025 season, which kicked off at the renowned Bowman Gray Stadium after a hiatus since 1971, witnessed the debut of two short track legends – Tim Brown and Burt Meyers. Their entry into the Cup Series was met with high expectations, given their impressive records at Bowman Gray Stadium (BGS).

Brown, who holds a record of 100 wins at BGS, and Meyers, the grandson of the legendary ‘Mr. Bowman Gray’ and a holder of 11 BGS Modified championships, were expected to give the Cup drivers a run for their money. However, their debut was marred by Meyers’ crash, causing a stir among devoted fans. Ricky Stenhouse Jr, the driver responsible for the accident, faced a backlash on social media platforms for jeopardizing Meyers’ debut.

Despite this unfortunate incident, rumors suggest that Meyers might have another opportunity to prove his mettle. Talk is rife that Meyers could be the man behind the wheel at the anticipated Martinsville race. Fueling these speculations is an image of a Chevrolet Camaro, similar to the #50 car Meyers drove at BGS, circulating online with Meyers’ name on it.

While these rumors remain unconfirmed, they originated from the Instagram page ‘nascarrumornostalgia’, a known source of credible NASCAR-related rumors. Furthermore, when questioned about his possible return to the Cup Series, Meyers hinted at a potential comeback, stating, “There are rumors, can’t say anything just yet. We were gonna wait and see how this night went… we’ll evaluate and we’ll get through the night, assess the situation and see where it takes us.”

Meyers’ rumored return to racing suggests that he might participate in future races with Team AmeriVet in the #50 car, as they usually compete in 2-4 races per season. There is also talk of Meyers possibly participating in this year’s All-Star race at North Wilkesboro. If true, this could bring Meyers one step closer to fulfilling his dream and settling his score with Stenhouse Jr.

On the other side of the coin, Brown’s debut was equally disappointing. He failed to make it past the Last Chance Qualifier, a disappointment that was felt even more deeply due to the heightened anticipation surrounding his debut. Brown, known as the most successful driver at BGS with over 100 wins and 12 championships, expressed his excitement saying, “I woke up with the biggest smile on my face this morning and such at peace with the Lord that I’m just so blessed to be here. I’m going to enjoy every moment of it and I hope that we put that thing up front and make a show out of it.”

Despite the setback, Brown savored every moment of being a Cup driver, illustrating the joy of his debut, “The coolest thing was to walk in. They wrapped the car Sunday to surprise me when I went to work on Monday and when you walk in and flip the lights on and you see that thing sitting there, it was like super emotional, right? Then, to get to bring my family down and have the modified there to unveil it and have our sponsors there and my wife and kids, it is super, super special.”

The potential return of these seasoned racers to the Cup Series is a highly anticipated event. What are your thoughts on their comeback? Let us know in the comments section.
