Accelerating Action: Formula E Expands Women’s Test Day to Boost Diversity in Motorsport

Formula E has recently revealed plans for a second all-women’s test, slated for October 30, 2025. This follows the resounding success of the inaugural event last year. During this first-of-its-kind event, each Formula E team showcased at least one female driver for an afternoon session on the Circuito Jarama, wrapping up the pre-season testing programme.

The announcement was made in line with the International Women’s Day celebrations on March 8 and in support of this year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action’. The upcoming test will be divided into two sessions, ensuring an entire day of track action.

The test will accommodate up to 22 drivers, with each Formula E team again obliged to include at least one female driver. Abbi Pulling, who emerged as the fastest driver in Nissan’s team during last year’s inaugural women’s test, is expected to participate.

Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer of Formula E, expressed his enthusiasm about the forthcoming event. He highlighted the importance of building on the previous year’s successful all-women’s test, and shared plans to enhance the event by extending it to a full day of testing comprising two substantial test sessions.

Longo further emphasized Formula E’s commitment to dismantling entry barriers for women in motorsport. The aim is to provide women with equal opportunities to exhibit their skills, utilizing the same sophisticated technology as their male counterparts.

Formula E’s dedication to attracting top-tier drivers is reflected in the expansion of this test and their ongoing initiatives supporting women at every stage in the sport. One such initiative is the FIA Girls on Track, which hosts 120 young women on the track the day before each race. This initiative offers immersive educational workshops and talks aimed at enhancing understanding of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) subjects. It also provides invaluable insights into the motorsport industry.

The all-women’s test is a vital element of Formula E’s long-term strategy to foster diversity and equality in motorsport. The focus remains on identifying and eliminating structural barriers that restrict women’s participation in the sport. By increasing the visibility of women in motorsport and providing equal access to the latest technology and resources, Formula E is championing a more inclusive future for the sport.
