Xiaomi has officially announced for the first time that it intends to start selling its cars outside of China starting in 2027. The brand, which has so far been highlighted for the volume of sales of its models in the Chinese market, now seems willing to expand its domestic market success globally.
The president of Xiaomi, William Lu, stated in an interview with the Chinese publication specializing in economic matters “Jiemian” during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, that the brand aims to begin marketing its range of electric vehicles within two years.
It is worth noting that Xiaomi announced its entry into car production in March 2021. Three years later, in March 2024, it launched its first electric model, the Xiaomi SU7.
Equipped with electric motors developed in-house by Xiaomi, the SU7 is available only in the Chinese market, with two versions: the base model features a single electric motor installed on the rear axle, producing 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque, powered by a 73.6 kWh battery, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.28 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 km/h, with a range of 628 km to 668 km in the CLTC cycle.
The more powerful version is the SU7 Max, which uses two electric motors, one on each axle, providing all-wheel drive, with a total power output of 645 hp and 838 Nm of torque. It utilizes a 101 kWh battery supplied by CATL, allowing for a range of up to 800 km, as well as accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and achieving a top speed of 265 km/h.
After announcing that it finished 2024 with over 135,000 units of the SU7 delivered, Xiaomi has set an ambitious goal for 2025 to achieve sales of 300,000 units.
To strengthen its commitment in 2025, the Chinese brand launched this March the SU7 Ultra, the sporty version of the SU7. The second model to be launched by Xiaomi in 2025 is the YU7, a 100% electric SUV that is expected to hit the Chinese market in early the second half of the year.
