Stoking the Rivalry: Christopher Bell Admits Kyle Larson is the ‘Best Driver in the World

From the dirt tracks of their early racing days to the high-stakes asphalt of NASCAR, Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell have continually pushed each other to new performance heights. Their rivalry, characterized by contrasting racing styles and mutual respect, has become one of the most captivating narratives in motorsports.

Larson, a product of Toyota Racing Development, cut his teeth in open-wheel racing with premier teams such as Keith Kunz Motorsports. His daring, pedal-to-the-metal approach quickly set him apart. However, this dominance was interrupted by the arrival of Bell, a meticulous and precision-focused contender.

Despite their competitive nature, both drivers have acknowledged the unique strengths of their rival. Bell’s precision and calculation contrast starkly with Larson’s audacious, high-risk strategy. As Bell points out, “Our styles are just completely different. Kyle is just this guy that’s right foot down, like letting her hang out, like just on the verge of out of control at all times.”

Bell recently revealed his candid assessment of Larson during an episode of The Driver’s Project Podcast. In a startling moment of honesty, he declared, “He’s the best driver in the world.” This seven-word admission highlights Larson’s innate talent and his ability to squeeze every ounce of performance from any car he drives, leaving even the best competitors in his dust.

However, Bell’s respect for Larson doesn’t mean he is willing to step down. His recent performances at the Tulsa Shootout and the World of Outlaws show his commitment to refining his skills and closing the gap with Larson. The photo finish at the Tulsa Shootout, where Bell narrowly outpaced Larson, added even more heat to their fiery rivalry. Further, Bell’s triumph at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, with Larson finishing third, also served as a powerful statement.

The pair’s rivalry, despite being highly competitive, is marked by mutual respect. As Bell puts it, “We’re not enemies; we’re not going to sit here and throw fists, but we respect each other. We’re rivals.” This dynamic pushes both drivers to their extremes, promising more electrifying clashes in the future, including the upcoming EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.

Bell, fresh off his victory in the Ambetter Health 400, is eager to maintain his momentum and secure his position as the first double-winner of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season. His track record at COTA is mixed, with strong finishes in 2024 and 2022, and less successful runs in 2023 and 2021, when accidents resulted in finishes of 31st and 38th, respectively.

On the other hand, Larson has shown strength at COTA, securing a second-place finish in 2021, but his subsequent performances have been less than stellar, with finishes of 29th, 14th, and 17th in 2022, 2023, and 2024 respectively. Known for struggling with superspeedway tracks, Larson seeks redemption following his near-miss at Atlanta.

The shorter National layout of COTA, with its 2.3 miles and sharper corners, may favor Bell’s precise driving, while Larson’s boundary-pushing style might also find an advantage. Both drivers will need to quickly adapt to the new configuration.

As the race approaches, anticipation builds. Will Bell make history with his second win of the season? Can Larson overcome his past struggles at the track? This high-stakes event is set to deliver unpredictable outcomes, with both drivers having everything to play for. Their rivalry continues to fuel some of the most thrilling on-track battles in NASCAR today.
