Verstappen and Norris Joke About Past F1 Rivalry and Look Forward to a Spirited 2025 Season

In a spirited display of camaraderie and good humor, F1 rivals Max Verstappen of Red Bull and McLaren’s Lando Norris addressed their intense competition in the 2024 season and the strain it put on their friendship. It was clear from their jesting responses during a pre-season press conference in Bahrain that both are eagerly anticipating another head-to-head battle in 2025 and have gracefully navigated past their previous tensions.

The 2024 season was particularly notable for the fierce contest between Verstappen and Norris. Norris, who made a significant attempt to topple Verstappen from the championship’s zenith, marked a turning point in the championship with his first victory at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix. This triumph signaled McLaren’s re-emergence as a formidable contender and positioned Norris as a potential disruptor to Verstappen’s streak of success. However, Verstappen, the reigning World Champion, prevailed once again and secured the trophy for the year.

The rigorous competition was not without its fallout – it seemingly led to a fracture in the friendship between Norris and Verstappen. The high-stakes rivalry left both drivers somewhat irked with each other. However, in a recent pre-test press conference, it was clear that both racers have left the past behind and are looking forward to another exciting season of racing.

Verstappen, responding to a question about their off-season relationship, humorously commented, “It’s a terrible relationship. We don’t get on anymore. It’s taken its toll. Big drama. Big problems.” Norris joined in the jesting, adding, “We had a fight the other day in a local pub.”

Their playful banter continued with Verstappen laughing, “We had to get escorted [out],” and Norris admitting, “I started it.” Verstappen then humorously quipped, “I always say ‘you should see the other guy,’ but actually, he still looks good.”

The light-hearted exchange suggests that the duo has successfully mended any rift that may have formed during the 2024 season. Norris then took a moment to address their relationship more seriously, affirming, “Yeah, it’s fine. I think we’re both looking forward to more of last year, more battles. I don’t think it’s going to be just us. I think there’s going to be others involved, which will make it more exciting for everyone.”

While it’s challenging to predict the upcoming season’s dynamics based on pre-season testing, early signs indicate that Norris and Verstappen could be back in the thick of the competition. Norris topped the timing charts on the first day of testing, with Verstappen finishing third; on Day 2, Verstappen sat out, while Norris’ run seemed more focused on practicing pit stops after a slow start to the day.

In conclusion, the 2025 F1 season promises to be an exciting showdown between Verstappen and Norris. Their good-natured banter and mutual respect bode well for another gripping season of riveting rivalry and breathtaking races.
