FIA’s New Cooling Vests: Impractical in Current Form, Says Haas Driver Esteban Ocon

Esteban Ocon, the famed Haas driver, has expressed skepticism over the practical utility of the latest cooling vests released by FIA. These vests, specifically designed to assist drivers in managing extreme heat during races, are, according to Ocon, currently impractical for anyone to use.

The cooling kit was launched in response to the difficulties drivers encountered during the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix due to the intense heat. Despite the fact that the device is theoretically primed for usage in this season, Ocon has voiced concerns about its functionality in its current state.

His words have raised questions about the effectiveness of the cooling system. Ocon’s doubts hint towards a potential lack of testing or a rush in the development process, leading to the creation of a device that might fall short of its intended purpose of alleviating strain on drivers during hot races.

Ocon’s assertions emphasize the urgent need for an effective solution to the problem of extreme heat during races. The issue is not just about comfort, but also about safety for the drivers. Yet, the current state of the cooling vest, according to Ocon, appears to be far from the solution the drivers need.

This revelation is vital, especially in the wake of the physical challenges that drivers faced during the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix. The introduction of the FIA’s cooling device was seen as a promising step towards addressing these concerns. But Ocon’s critique suggests that there may still be a long way to go in achieving this objective.

To optimize performance and ensure the safety of drivers, it’s clear that the FIA must address these concerns and possibly revisit the design and functionality of the cooling vests. The stakes are high, and the sports world will be watching closely to see how the FIA responds to this challenge. Whether they can quickly adapt and rectify these issues will be a true testament to their commitment to drivers’ safety and comfort.
