The motorsport world has been buzzing with the unfolding saga of Linus Lundqvist, the 2024 IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year. The young racer has finally emerged from a long offseason hiatus, shedding light on his controversial departure from Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR).

Lundqvist’s departure from CGR, a team renowned in the world of motorsport, came as a shock to many. The team’s decision to reduce its fleet from five to three cars in 2025 resulted in the Swedish driver losing his seat, a situation that has kept the IndyCar fraternity on the edge of their seats.

Addressing the issue head-on, Lundqvist turned to social media to narrate his side of the story. Responding to queries about his presence at the season’s inaugural IndyCar race in St. Petersburg, he confirmed his attendance but lamented that he would not be behind the wheel.

Lundqvist opened up about the exhilaration he felt a year ago when he inked a multi-year agreement with CGR and The American Legion. He was anticipating a long and successful tenure with the team, driving alongside notable figures such as Scott and Alex.

The Swede fondly recalled his maiden season with CGR, which was marked by a Pole Award at Road America, podium finishes at Barber and St. Louis, and a crowning glory of a Rookie of the Year Award. Lundqvist expressed his admiration for the team, including Chip, Mike Hull, and the rest of the CGR team, affirming that working with them was a dream realized.

However, the dream was abruptly cut short when Lundqvist was informed in January that his contract with CGR was being terminated. Despite the blow, Lundqvist wished his former team well and held onto hope that he would be back in a competitive seat, leveraging the provisions in his CGR contract.

While he awaits resolution, Lundqvist affirmed his commitment to stay active in the racing circuit, preferably in IndyCar, to build on his open-wheel achievements.

In his heartfelt message, Lundqvist extended his gratitude to his fans, particularly The American Legion family, for their unwavering support during these challenging times. He reassured them of his eagerness to return to the track soon.

The outpouring of support for Lundqvist is a testament to his talent and potential. As we await further developments, one thing is certain – the racing world has not seen the last of this promising young driver.
