Christian Horner, the Team Principal of Red Bull Racing, has singled out Ferrari as a “standout” team on the 2025 Formula 1 grid, thanks to its daring approach to car design. While other teams have seemingly adopted similar concepts leading to a sea of identical-looking vehicles, Ferrari has broken the mold with its 2025 machine, the SF-25.

This year marks the end of the current regulations, which has seen teams gravitate towards similar design philosophies. However, Ferrari has chosen a different path, opting for a complete overhaul of their vehicle, despite finishing second last season. The bold move comes as the team found itself hitting a development ceiling with its previous car, the SF-24, necessitating a more ambitious design for its successor.

Ferrari’s notable alterations, including an expected move to a pull-rod front suspension, have caught the attention of rivals and observers alike. During pre-season testing, where all ten cars had the opportunity to share the track, Horner was quick to identify the Maranello-based team as the one making the most drastic changes.

“It’s evident that under the current regulations, there’s a strong convergence in car designs,” Horner shared with reporters, including those from Motorsport Week. “However, Ferrari stands out as the team taking a different direction.”

Horner also anticipates a fiercely contested 2025 season, following a 2024 season finale where less than a second separated the entire field in Q1. The competition this year is expected to be one of the closest in F1 history. According to Horner, the team that can maximize their performance at each event will gain an edge over others.

“Marginal gains will be critical this year,” Horner noted. “Every part of our car is different from last year, though it may look similar due to the same underlying philosophy. Many cars have converged towards this, leading to tight competition. The ability to extract the maximum from your car, your package, and perform on the day will be the deciding factors. This could result in multiple winners this year, making for an exciting season for fans and followers of the sport.”

In conclusion, while the convergence of design among other teams is an expected outcome of the current regulations, Ferrari’s innovative approach marks them as a standout in the 2025 Formula 1 grid. The coming season promises to be a thrilling ride with a tight competition, much to the delight of fans worldwide.
