VIDEO – Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli Tops the Charts in Formula 1 Pre-Season Testing: Highlights from Wednesday AM Session

The much-anticipated Formula 1 pre-season testing has finally sprung into action at Bahrain’s Sakhir Circuit. The event, structured into two phases – a morning and afternoon run, features each of the ten teams flexing their machines and strategies.

Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli stole the show during the inaugural session, topping the timesheets with a time of 1:31.428. This impressive feat just nudged out Red Bull’s fresh recruit, Liam Lawson. Assuming the seat previously occupied by Sergio Perez and sharing the paddock with Max Verstappen, the young Kiwi trailed Antonelli by a mere tenth on the same medium tyre compound.

However, as any seasoned Formula 1 follower knows, testing times often come with a grain of salt. With the teams’ run plans and fuel limits shrouded in secrecy, these preliminary runs primarily serve as a stage for the teams to test the mettle of their new cars.

The leaderboard of Wednesday Morning’s F1 testing results saw Antonelli at the helm, trailed closely by Lawson. The third slot was occupied by Alexander Albon of Williams with a 0.145 gap on hard tyres, followed by Yuki Tsunoda of Racing Bulls. In an unexpected twist, Lewis Hamilton, now with Ferrari, was fifth on the list. The remaining spots were filled by Jack Doohan of Alpine, Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin, Oscar Piastri of McLaren, Nico Hulkenberg from Kick Sauber, and Oliver Bearman from Haas.

As the 2025 Formula 1 season roars to life, MotorsportWeek.com is on ground zero in Bahrain, delivering the latest updates, results, images, and insightful analyses from the pre-season testing event. Stay tuned for more exhilarating news from the world of F1 racing.
