Lewis Hamilton Takes the Lead in F1’s Bahrain Pre-Season Test: A Smooth Start for Ferrari

As the Formula 1 Bahrain pre-season test got underway, Lewis Hamilton seized the lead for Ferrari within the first hour. He set a commendable time of 1m32.621s on C4 mediums, outpacing Alex Albon of Williams and securing his place at the top of the Wednesday leaderboard.

The impressive start did not come without a minor hiccup. Hamilton experienced a slightly off moment on the kerbs at the Turn 11 left-hander as he began to test the limits of the SF-25. Nonetheless, his current record still lags 2.7s behind the fastest time from last year’s Bahrain test, a record set by Carlos Sainz, his predecessor at Ferrari.

Despite this, Hamilton’s performance, along with that of the entire field, has been smooth. Every team has successfully completed some initial running, demonstrating a promising start to the pre-season testing.

Following Hamilton, Alex Albon trailed by 0.241s, with Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin securing the third spot. Red Bull’s Liam Lawson, Jack Doohan from Alpine, Yuki Tsunoda of Racing Bulls, Nico Hulkenberg from Sauber, and Kimi Antonelli representing Mercedes, all made it to the top eight. Ollie Bearman, lagging 2.9s behind, managed the ninth spot while Oscar Piastri from McLaren was the only driver yet to set a representative lap time.

The opening hour of Formula 1’s Bahrain pre-season test did not bring any major surprises. The front-running teams’ vehicles rolled out of the pitlane without any unexpected incidents. Red Bull’s RB21 car appears to be a direct carryover of the RB20 that wrapped up the previous season, signaling a consistent approach from the team.

This inaugural hour of testing sets the stage for an exciting Formula 1 season, where every second matters, and every move is a potential game-changer. As the teams continue to tweak and fine-tune their machines, the world watches in anticipation to see who will reign supreme on the asphalt.
