Revitalizing the old and treasured, NASCAR has recently been injecting fresh energy into classic racetracks such as North Wilkesboro Speedway and Bowman Gray Stadium. Now, it appears the world of short-track racing is taking a cue from NASCAR. Slinger Super Speedway, a revered name in short-track racing circles, is gearing up for its 78th racing season, and alongside, it is set to welcome a new set of owners, marking an exciting development in its rich history.

Slinger Super Speedway has been a regular stop for NASCAR’s high-profile names. The Slinger Nationals, an esteemed short-track racing event, has played host to NASCAR Hall of Famers, including the likes of Alan Kulwicki, Mark Martin, and Matt Kenseth from the old guard. Among the present-day racers, NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, two-time Daytona 500 winner William Byron, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Ty Majeski have graced the track. As the Speedway gets ready for the Jerry “Bear” Priesgen Memorial race slated for April 27th, it has an exciting update to announce.

Owners Todd and Elizabeth Thelen recently revealed via Facebook that the iconic Wisconsin racetrack is on the cusp of changing hands. While the identity of the new owners remains under wraps, it has been hinted that the potential buyers are local racing enthusiasts who have transitioned into racers. The Thelens’ statement emphasized the significance of this transaction, noting that they had been involved with the ‘business side’ of Slinger Speedway since 2005, and were fans since the late ’70s. They also raced Super Late Models from the late ’90s to the early 2000s.

The Thelens said, “We knew that if we ever stepped away, it needed to be under the right circumstances.” They went on to add, “Most importantly, we needed to be assured that it would remain a racetrack. That time may have arrived. We are pleased to announce that local buyers are in the process of purchasing the speedway. The potential buyers also began as fans, transitioned into racers, and are excited to take the track into the next chapter of its historic existence…While we wish we could have told all of our friends, teams, and partners personally, stories are starting to circulate. We are sharing this news here to lead and help facilitate a smooth transition as Slinger Speedway enters its new stage of growth.”

Indeed, it is clear that Slinger Super Speedway, a cherished NASCAR venue, is embarking on an exciting new journey. We eagerly await further updates on this significant shakeup in ownership.
