NASCAR’s history is replete with families passing the baton of racing excellence from one generation to the next. Legends like Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, and Kyle Busch have paved the way for successors such as Dale Jr., Chase Elliott, and Brexton Busch. Now, Kevin Harvick’s torch is being picked up by his son, Keelan Harvick, who at the tender age of 12 is already making waves in the racing community.

An electrifying moment awaits as the father-son duo prepares to compete head-to-head at the Kern Raceway in Bakersfield. The retired racing champion, Kevin Harvick, stands on one side of the track, his illustrious career behind him. On the other side, his son Keelan, fueled with ambition and an unquenchable desire to make his own mark in the racing world.

While the excitement of the upcoming race is palpable, Kevin Harvick’s fatherly concern is equally evident. He has made it clear to his son that aggressive driving could lead to costly damages. His stern warning to his son on the Happy Hour podcast was, “This is not a legend car, and if you wreck my a—, it’s expensive, and I’m paying for it. So you better be sure if you wreck me, you better be for something really really good.”

But Keelan, showcasing his wit and confidence, was quick to respond. In an interview with FloRacing, he assured his father, “He’s not as much of a driver because he does pay for it, but I probably won’t hit him.”

The upcoming race at the Kern Raceway will mark the first time that Kevin and Keelan Harvick will compete against each other in the CARS Tour West Pro Late Model series. Kevin will be driving the No. 29 Hunt Brothers® Pizza late model, and Keelan will take control of the No. 62 Hunt Brothers Pizza late model, a number with significant family history.

The stakes are high, with more than just trophies on the line. Family pride and bragging rights are also at play. Keelan is determined not to lose to his father, stating, “My dad has helped me so much in my short racing career. Being able to race against him for the first time is pretty cool, and it’s something we’ve talked about for a long time. I hope I come out on top because if not, he won’t stop bragging about it.”

Keelan Harvick is not a novice in the racing world. His career already boasts impressive achievements. In 2024, he emerged as the INEX Young Lions Asphalt National Champion, recording an astounding 27 wins in 49 starts, and 38 podium finishes. He made his Limited Late Model debut at Florence Motor Speedway in November 2024, finishing eighth out of 31 cars. He went on to claim his first category win in February 2025. His karting prowess was also demonstrated when he won his first race in the Micro Swift category at GoPro Motorplex in July 2020.

Keelan’s talent has not gone unnoticed. He was listed as the youngest driver on FloRacing’s “20 Under 20” list, marking him as one of the sport’s most promising rising stars.

As Keelan Harvick ascends the ranks of NASCAR racing, he will undoubtedly cherish these early races against his father. Yet, it’s clear that like his predecessors, he is on a trajectory to write his own chapter in the annals of the sport. The upcoming race at Kern Raceway will be just another stepping stone towards a promising future.
