FIA Criticizes Disrespectful Booing of F1 Champ Verstappen and Team Principal Horner at F1 75 Event

In a recent development, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has openly criticized the negative reactions aimed at Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen and Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner during the F1 75 live event. A sea of 15,000 fans at the O2 Arena, along with millions of spectators tuning in from their homes, witnessed the disturbing scenes unfold.

The F1 75 event, which brought together all 10 teams for an extravagant showcase, was marred by boos and jeers during Red Bull’s presentation. The Team Principal Horner along with Verstappen, their star driver, took to the stage to unveil the RB21, only to be met with hostility from the predominantly British crowd.

This hostility, it seems, has its roots in the 2021 season. The Milton Keynes-based Red Bull squad became unpopular in the UK following a contentious title fight between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, culminating in a controversial finale in Abu Dhabi.

The FIA, in response to this “tribalist reaction”, has publicly condemned the crowd’s behaviour. A spokesperson for the association emphasized the importance of maintaining a culture of respect in sports, which underpins the excitement and thrill of motorsport rivalries.

In their statement, the FIA reminded fans of the significant contributions Verstappen and Horner have made to Formula 1, urging them to remember this as the new season unfolds. The FIA’s disappointment at the crowd’s reaction at the F1 launch in London was evident.

Additionally, as part of their commitment to safeguarding the sport’s integrity, the FIA is at the forefront of a coalition battling online abuse in sports. The campaign, titled ‘United Against Online Abuse’, seeks to address and counter this growing menace.

The FIA concluded their statement with a call to action, imploring the sporting community to be mindful of the repercussions of their actions, both in the virtual and real world. This incident underscores the need for sportsmanship, respect, and decency, both on and off the field.

It’s worth noting that Max Verstappen has expressed his hopes for ‘common sense’ to prevail in the face of F1’s swearing clampdown. As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on the unfolding dynamics between the drivers, teams, and fans.
