In a candid revelation, Lewis Hamilton, one of the most accomplished drivers in the Formula 1 arena, has expressed his admiration for fellow racers Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel. The British driver’s newfound respect comes in light of Alonso and Vettel’s remarkable successes with Ferrari, a team Hamilton is set to join in the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Hamilton, who recently completed the car shakedown at Fiorano, is now intensively preparing for his inaugural Grand Prix with Ferrari. The forthcoming winter testing in Bahrain and the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park Circuit in March will signal his official start in Ferrari’s signature red racing suit.

At 40, Hamilton is acutely aware of the formidable challenge that lies ahead. He acknowledges the remarkable achievements of Vettel and Alonso, who both made a swift impact after joining Scuderia Ferrari. Hamilton’s recognition of their swift triumphs underpins his respect for these seasoned drivers.

Vettel, who has since retired, tasted victory in his second race with Ferrari at the 2015 Malaysian GP. Meanwhile, Alonso, a 43-year-old Spaniard, won his first race for the team at the Bahrain GP, falling short of the title by a mere four points.

Hamilton, a decorated champion with Mercedes, is eager to emulate the successful trajectories of Alonso and Vettel with Ferrari. However, he candidly admits that matching the feats of his racing peers is no mean task.

Addressing the media, Hamilton expresses his admiration for Vettel and Alonso, acknowledging the immense effort required to adapt to a new team. “Those guys did an amazing job,” Hamilton states. “I have huge respect for those two drivers. The step it takes and the amount of work that goes on to acclimatising is extraordinary. And so it makes those results that they had even more exceptional than even I had appreciated before.”

Hamilton is dedicated to preparing for the upcoming season. He understands that achieving success with Ferrari requires time, commitment, and the right mindset. With newfound respect for his predecessors’ accomplishments, he is committed to scripting his own success narrative with the Scuderia in 2025, potentially surpassing Michael Schumacher’s legendary record in the process.

When questioned about whether he could replicate the early successes of his predecessors, Hamilton draws from his own experiences with Mercedes. He admits that it might be too soon to predict, but assures he will give it his all. “What I know is that the testing is more limited than ever before,” Hamilton adds. “And fortunately I’ve had a good bit of time in the car. I still am acclimatising.”

Fans will recall the dominating reign Hamilton had in Formula 1 from 2014 to 2020, where he won every championship, save for 2016. The exception came about due to an engine failure with six races remaining. Hamilton’s tenure with the Silver Arrows saw him amass 84 Grand Prix wins, 50 pole positions, and 153 podium finishes.

If Hamilton can replicate even a fraction of his earlier successes with Ferrari before his contract ends, team leaders Fred Vasseur and John Elkann are sure to be pleased. As Hamilton steps into this new chapter of his career, fans and critics alike will be watching closely, eager to see whether Hamilton can continue his legacy of success with the legendary Scuderia Ferrari.
