Highly decorated British Formula 1 racer, Lewis Hamilton, has made it clear that his focus lies more on winning with Ferrari than securing a record eighth Formula 1 championship. His recent association with Ferrari has invigorated his professional spirit, and Hamilton is optimistic about achieving greater success with the Italian squad.
In what could be a historic moment for Ferrari, Hamilton’s victory in 2025 could mark the end of the team’s championship drought that has been lingering since 2008. Interestingly, 2008 was the same year when Hamilton claimed his maiden title with McLaren. His later move to Mercedes added six more championship titles to his name, a feat shared with his previous teams and Red Bull.
Hamilton, with his extensive experience in championship-winning teams, is convinced that Ferrari has all the necessary elements to dominate Formula 1. While another championship title would indeed amplify his unparalleled stature in the sport, Hamilton believes that a victory with Ferrari would be a more significant triumph.
When asked about his pursuit of an eighth title, Hamilton explained his priorities. He said, “Winning the championship for Ferrari is the first. That’s what I’m working towards. I don’t think about the number eight. I’m thinking about the first championship that the team has won for some time.”
In 2021, Hamilton was on the verge of securing his eighth title but a controversial late restart allowed Max Verstappen to overtake him and claim the championship. This setback led to speculation about Hamilton’s possible retirement, especially after his low-profile presence during the winter period.
However, Hamilton, now committed to Ferrari on a multi-term contract, has refuted such speculations. He stated that even if he were to win another championship by 2025, it wouldn’t compel him to retire. “If I was fortunate enough to win another title, which is obviously what we’re setting out to do, I don’t see myself stopping,” he said.
While filled with optimism, Hamilton is not underestimating the task ahead and is fully aware of the challenges that lie in his path to achieving his goal with Ferrari. He said, “Yes, but I’m also aware [that] there a lot of drivers that never ever get to win a World Championship, first and foremost.”
Hamilton has expressed his respect for the hurdles ahead, acknowledging the fact that many great teams with great drivers have failed to win World Championships due to various circumstances. But with his extensive experience, unwavering determination, and Ferrari’s potential, Hamilton is ready to face the challenge and work towards breaking Ferrari’s championship drought.
