Christian Horner Slams Media Over Max Verstappen’s $1.2 Billion Aston Martin Rumor

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has strongly refuted the recent media speculation that Aston Martin made a $1.2 billion offer to Max Verstappen for the 2026 Formula 1 season. Horner, responding to the outlandish claims, criticized the media for fueling the rumors, which he believes were fabricated simply to fill column inches during the winter break.

The rumors suggested that Aston Martin, looking to further strengthen its lineup, had proposed an eye-watering sum to Verstappen. However, both the team and the Dutch driver himself quickly shut down the reports. Verstappen, who has raced with Red Bull since 2016, dismissed the idea as “pure nonsense” at the F1 75 event in London.

Horner echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the absurdity of such an offer. “Look, I know you guys have all got columns to fill over a winter period. But for a billion dollars? It would be an eye-wateringly large amount of money,” said Horner.

Despite the media frenzy, Horner maintained that Red Bull remains in a strong financial position, making it clear that Verstappen’s future is secure at the team. While he refrained from commenting on the finances of other teams, Horner proudly stated, “Red Bull are relatively well-positioned compared to others within the pit lane.”

While there was some truth to rumors about Verstappen potentially leaving Red Bull due to a performance clause in his contract, Horner remained confident in his team’s ability to retain their star driver.

As the Formula 1 season progresses, fans can likely expect Verstappen to continue racing for Red Bull, at least for the near future. Though the sport’s commercial landscape continues to evolve, a billion-dollar offer still remains firmly in the realm of speculation.
