Jack Doohan Responds With Fury as Speculation Over Franco Colapinto’s Impact on His Seat Intensifies

In a response that reverberated across the Formula 1 paddock, Jack Doohan has forcefully shut down claims that his position at Alpine is under threat following the signing of Franco Colapinto as the team’s reserve driver for the 2025 season. Doohan, who is gearing up for his first full season as a race driver with Alpine, faced probing questions about Colapinto’s arrival, but his response was nothing short of emphatic, dismissing any suggestion that he felt undermined.

Colapinto, fresh off a nine-race stint with Williams, has been brought on board by Alpine as a reserve driver. His role will see him standing by to support both Doohan and teammate Pierre Gasly, with eyes on a future return to the grid. But speculation has swirled that Colapinto’s presence might signal uncertainty for Doohan, despite the Australian’s race seat seemingly being secure.

Alpine’s executive advisor, Flavio Briatore, added fuel to the fire when he bluntly stated in an interview with Le Parisien that nothing in Formula 1 is guaranteed except death. He also hinted that if any driver fails to deliver results, they could be replaced without hesitation. His comments have led many to question whether Doohan’s position might be in jeopardy.

Doohan Fires Back: “I Don’t Feel Undermined”

However, Doohan, showing remarkable poise, wasted no time in confronting the growing narrative. Speaking ahead of the F1 75 season launch in London, Doohan dismissed any notion of insecurity, stating firmly, “I’ve been told he’s a reserve driver.” He further clarified that pressure is an inevitable part of F1, and that Colapinto’s presence wouldn’t alter his focus. “I know when I was in go-karting, F3, F2, I would have done anything to be in Formula 1,” he said. “So I don’t think necessarily that someone inside or outside the team changes anything… It’s just part of the sport.”

When asked again if he felt undermined by Colapinto’s signing, Doohan’s response became more pointed. “Is that a question?” he shot back, before adding, “I was a 21-year-old reserve driver last year with a long-term contract. But no, I don’t feel undermined. Maybe I should, I don’t know. I don’t really understand how that’s a question, but definitely not.”

Flavio Briatore’s Stark Warning: “F1 is About Results, Not Emotions”

The drama surrounding the future of Alpine’s driver lineup continues to intensify, especially in light of Briatore’s candid remarks about performance and results. While he assured fans that the team would start the 2025 season with Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan, his statement that the team would “see as the season progresses” has raised eyebrows. Briatore has long been known for his no-nonsense attitude and willingness to make tough decisions, and it’s clear that neither Doohan nor Gasly will be guaranteed job security if they don’t meet expectations.

Colapinto’s Role: The Pressure of Being the Backup

Colapinto’s arrival at Alpine may have initially sparked questions about Doohan’s future, but the Argentine driver seems to be firmly planted in a supporting role for now. As a reserve driver, Colapinto will remain on standby, hoping to make a return to the grid in the future. However, in the cutthroat world of F1, even a reserve role can be a springboard to greater things, and many are eager to see if Colapinto can make his mark in 2025.

Conclusion: The High-Stakes Battle for Alpine’s Future

The addition of Franco Colapinto to the Alpine fold, combined with the undercurrent of uncertainty surrounding Jack Doohan’s future, creates a pressure cooker situation at Enstone. However, Doohan’s fiery response to the mounting speculation proves that he’s ready to face whatever challenges come his way. As the 2025 season unfolds, one thing is certain: the battle for Alpine’s seats will be fierce, and only those who can deliver results will thrive in this ruthless, high-stakes environment.
