Carlos Sainz Sparks Optimism at Williams: “It’s Night and Day” Compared to Last Year’s Car

Carlos Sainz Takes the Wheel of Williams FW47 for First Run at Silverstone: “Everything went fine with Williams FW47 shakedown”

Carlos Sainz is wasting no time making waves at Williams Racing. Fresh off his first official test in the 2025 FW47, the former Ferrari star is already injecting a dose of confidence into the British team’s resurgence. After a dramatic exit from the Prancing Horse, Sainz has embraced his new challenge with remarkable enthusiasm—declaring the latest Williams car to be a “night and day” transformation compared to its predecessor.

A New Era for Williams?

Williams surprised the paddock with a sudden shakedown of its 2025 challenger on Friday, marking not just a technical debut but also a statement of intent. The Grove-based outfit staged a major launch event, offering an in-depth look at the FW47’s design and performance upgrades. For Sainz, this was more than just a first drive—it was a pivotal moment in his career reboot.

The Spaniard, now 30, took the wheel for the first time and quickly turned heads with his assessment. “According to Alex [Albon] and James [Vowles], it’s night and day. That’s why I wanted to put emphasis on today,” Sainz remarked, his words dripping with excitement about Williams’ newfound potential.

From Midfield Struggles to Front-Runner Aspirations

Williams’ confidence in 2025 is already lightyears ahead of where it was just a year ago. Sainz pointed out a stark contrast—the team wouldn’t have even dared to hold such an open and high-profile shakedown in 2024. “Do you think Williams last year would have been able to pull off a day like today, inviting media and our biggest partners? I don’t think so,” he stated, underscoring the team’s growing ambition.

The message is clear: Williams is no longer content with being an afterthought on the grid. With a seasoned driver like Sainz at the helm, the squad is gunning for consistent points, aiming to shake up the F1 midfield—and perhaps even push beyond it.

For Sainz, 2025 is about proving he belongs at the sharp end of the grid. For Williams, it’s about reigniting the fire of a once-great team. And if the early signs are anything to go by, both driver and team might just be on the brink of something special.
